Let’s begin at the top of the English game. The seriousness with which we discuss the Premier League – and Europe’s other top flights, for that matter – is mind-bending. It’s happened at the water cooler and in the pub for as long as football and water coolers have existed, but the internet age has brought with it more intense debate and, combined with other technologies that have encroached onto the game, encouraged us to pore over every statistic, argue every refereeing decision and pick the bones out of every player’s positioning, contribution and attributes.

Debate in football, as in all walks of life, is healthy and necessary. But in football (this is probably also true in all walks of life, but I don’t generally get involved in debate outside football) it isn’t really fun anymore. The vast majority of us are totally partisan and entirely unwilling to budge in our opinions, so what’s the point? I support Aston Villa, you support Birmingham City – we’re not going to agree on the penalty Roger Johnson conceded against Villa last season because we’re not really debating at all, we’re fighting a corner.

Si nici steaguri sărutate in urma unor ghionturi.

What characteristics do you need to become a successful scout?

The ability to distinguish the level of skills and attributes of a player as well as understand how they fit into your club’s environment or playing style or system.

An understanding of global football mechanism – how a player’s qualities match the price tag – is absolutely crucial. For instance, why pay a premium for a player from one of the top leagues if you can get a potentially even better player from a ‘lesser’ league for just a fraction of the cost?

Cultural knowledge – how a player deals with a change in environment – is a skill that many clubs overlook when recruiting international scouts. In my opinion, this is extremely flawed. Ideally an international scout should master several languages – that way a whole new world of important information opens up – and have basic knowledge in economics, psychology and cultural understanding.

Sadly football clubs are some way away from realising this, but the role and the perception of the scout will develop in the years to come. Identifying potential signings internationally entails so much more than just watching games of football and filling out reports.

Coach Wooden

„There has never been a finer coach în American sports. Nor a finer man” scria Sports Illustrated.

„Johnny, try and live up to these things and you’€™ll do all right”:

  • Be true to yourself.
  • Make each day your masterpiece.
  • Help others.
  • Drink deeply from good books, especially the Bible.
  • Make friendship a fine art.
  • Build a shelter against a rainy day.
  • Pray for guidance and give thanks for your blessings every day.

Success is peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to become the best you are capable of becoming.

Iată şi continuarea:

Trophies are not success, nor does possessing them necessarily mean you are a success. Success is measured by the quality of effort you put forth to do your best. And only you know if you have accomplished that. Then in everything goes well, you may get a trophy, often you dona€™t. Youa€™re still a success in my way of thinking. The score cannot make you a loser when you have given it your best effort.

Elevii săi erau mereu îndemnaţi să-şi controleze reacţiile:

When you leave the arena, a bystander shouldn’t be able to tell by you demeanor whether you won or lost.

If you can meet with triumph and disaster
and treat those two impostors just the same.

Today you, tomorrow me!

Anyway, each of these times this shit happened I was DISGUSTED with how people would not bother to help me. I spent hours on the side of the freeway waiting, watching roadside assistance vehicles blow past me, for AAA to show. The 4 gas stations I asked for a gas can at told me that they couldn’t loan them out “for my safety” but I could buy a really shitty 1-gallon one with no cap for $15. It was enough, each time, to make you say shit like “this country is going to hell in a handbasket.”

Citiți toată povestea. O să vă lumineze ziua.
